This 1964 Jaguar XKE is a Series I coupe that is said to have been distributed via Charles Hornburg Jaguar of Los Angeles, California, and purchased new by the current owner. Finished in silver over red upholstery, the car is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Additional equipment includes 15″ knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, a Talbot Berlin left mirror, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and an Alpine cassette stereo. Service performed in August 2023 involved overhauling the triple SU carburetors and refreshing the fluids. This XKE is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with tools, manufacturer’s literature, service records, and a clean California title in the owner’s name.
The car is said to have left the factory finished in silver and was reportedly repainted in the late 2000s. Exterior details include recessed headlights with clear covers, split chrome-finished bumpers with guards, a louvered forward-hinged hood, a door-mounted Talbot Berlin mirror, polished dual exhaust outlets, and a sloping tail with a side-hinged hatch. A black California license plate is affixed to the rear of the car, imperfections in the finish are visible.
The 15″ knock-off wheels were reportedly re-chromed under current ownership and are mounted with a mixed set of tires measuring 195/75 up front and 215/70 out back, while a matching spare wheel is stored in the trunk compartment. The car is equipped with a fully independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes, with the rears mounted inboard.
The cabin houses low-back bucket seats that have been reupholstered in red leather and are accompanied by a color-coordinated center console and carpets that are faded around the central tunnel. An Alpine cassette stereo has been installed and is linked to aftermarket speakers mounted in the footwells and on each side of the center stack.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock. Auxiliary gauges are housed in the center stack above a row of toggle switches for vehicle functions. The five-digit odometer shows 89k miles. The trip meter does not reset, per the seller.
The 3.8-liter inline-six is said to have been rebuilt in 2007 and features polished valve covers. Work performed in August 2023 involved overhauling the triple SU carburetors, flushing the coolant, and performing an oil change. A glass jar serves as the coolant overflow tank.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission that was reportedly overhauled in 2007. The clutch is said to have been replaced at that time, and the seller states that work performed in preparation for the sale involved replacing the fuel pump, cleaning the fuel tank, and refreshing the gear, differential, and clutch fluids.
Manufacturer’s literature and service records will accompany the sale.
Chassis number 889347 is shown above, and the sequence listed as the VIN on the California title is prepended with a “J64.”
