Details
This E Type Fixed Head Coupe is said to have been originally supplied through a New York dealer to a lady in California who sold the car to a Mr Edwin S. Pyle of Brentwood Tennessee in 1982. Mr. Pyle eventually sold the car to a British classic car dealer from whom the vendor purchased the car in 1990.
The vendor states that the car is in original order with original paint and unused spare wheel but has benefited from new leather seats from Aldridge Trimming in 1990 and a new clutch assembly in 2000.
The vendor states that the car has its original 3.8 XK Engine with triple SU Carburettors, UK axle ratio and would appear to have been on its original clutch when it was removed in 2000, which was confirmed by the factory indent tags, which are also present on other components.
The vendor believes that the indicated 69,750 miles is probably correct, this belief is supported by the above mentioned tags on vital mechanical components and the fact that the car was on the original clutch.
The vendor describes this E Type as being a good, solid, original car and states that this view was also that of a number of E Type experts, including a well known restorer.

Estimate: £11,500 to £13,500 Sold £10,500+ Prem

Car to be at auction 9/16
www.barons-auctions.com/auction_details.php

Auction description:
Model: E-Type 3.8 FHC Fast Road
First Registered: 1964
Registration No: EFD 736B
Mileometer: 71,402
Chassis No: 889920
MOT: May 2017
Colour: Bentley Opalescent Metallic Grey

This E-Type was sold to the USA in 1964 through a New York dealer to a lady in California who then sold the car to a Mr. Edwin Pyle of Brentwood Tennessee. The car was brought back to the UK and re-registered in 1990 and issued with its 'B' plate. It had 69,396 miles on the clock, which is believed by the vendor to be the original mileage, with no accident damage. The car was originally painted canary yellow.

The current owner purchased the car in December 2012 from a Mr Raymond Zgraga in Marbella, Spain in good roadworthy condition. It met all the criterior of being an unmolested, low mileage car to be rebuilt into his ideal 'Fast Road' E-Type. He had already rebuilt three previous E-Types out in Spain, with the built specification for this car being:

• Strip down to last nut and bolt.
• Repaint in Bentley opalescence grey
• Complete engine rebuild
• Kevlar hose kit
• Bore out engine and fit new HC pistons
• Set of ARP/RBR uprated head studs
• Rob Beere fast road cam shafts
• UO SU carburettor needles
• High pressure oil pump (RB)
• Oil cooler (RB)
• Open out and polish ports
• Lightened flywheel(RB)
• Competition clutch (RB)
• Skim head & fit competition valves and springs
• Spin off oil filter
• Replace all suspension rubbers with Pollybush
• High torque lightweight starter motor
• 5 speed Getag gearbox
• SS 2" competition exhaust system (Classic Fabs)
• Recondition steering rack and column
• Uprate front and rear suspension (RB torsion bars)
• Wet oil pressure gauge
• "Gaz" adjustable shock absorbers
• Coopercraft vented discs & racing aluminium callipers
• Dunlop 6 ½" wheels with Bridgestone 205/65R/15
• Altenator
• Luminition ignition system
• Lightweight starter motor
• Lucas hazard warning system
• Aluminium radiator and header tank plus electric fan
• Rob Beere adjustable reaction plate
• Totally undersealed
• Drilled, Waxoiled in all sills & structural boxing and reseal.

The rebuild took place from December 2012 to December 2014. As a result it was not until early 2015 that the car was actually on the road being cautiously run in at under 3,500 RPM until its first service on 03/03/2015 at 70,020 miles.
The car performed very well with its eager, fast road engine which was surprisingly tolerant in town driving and heavy traffic.

The car was then transported the car to the UK by AVL in August 2015 where it was MOT'd and taxed for the UK roads. To date the car has only done 71,402 miles from new and just 2,000 miles since the rebuild.

Guide Price: £80,000 to £100,000

Sold by The Classic Motor Hub of Bibury in April 2021. Abbreviated and amended seller's description below.

www.classicmotorhub.com/showroom/1964-jaguar-e-type-3-8-litre-fixed-head-coupe/

This 3.8 litre Fixed Head Coupe for sale at The Classic Motor Hub was delivered new in 1964 to a lady in California. The early history isn't completely known but the car moved to Mr Pyle of Tennessee in 1982, who subsequently sold it to a British classic car dealer who imported it into the UK in 1990. The first owner in the UK was Mr Williams of Claverley, near Wolverhampton who acquired the car in February 1990.

He kept the car until 2002 when it was consigned to Barons Auctions where it was described as being in incredibly original condition, in its original Primrose Yellow paint with an unused spare wheel. The seats were re-trimmed by Aldridge Trimming in 1990 and the clutch replaced in 2000. It is believed to have been the original clutch due to the presence of original factory indent tags, this pointed towards the 69,250 miles recorded on the clock as being original.

The next owner was Mr Zgraya of Coventry who had a property in Southern Spain where the E Type was kept, mostly unused from 2004-2012. In 2012 the car was advertised with 69,396 miles on the clock and in exactly the same condition as it had been bought at auction 10 years previously. The current owner wanted to build the ultimate gentlemen's fast road E Type, the originality and solid nature of this example fitted the bill and he bought the car in November 2002.

The car was rebuilt with the latest modern upgrades available to enhance performance without losing tractability needed for longer journeys. A detailed diary, photographs and invoices document the restoration which was completed in December 2014. In January 2015 the car was run in and had its first service in March 2015 at 70,025 miles. The car was then set up at the Ascari Circuit in Analucia and been used sparingly since.

This E Type now displays 72,500 miles and is in excellent condition. On the road this car is a revelation, the author has driver many E Types but he won't forget this one. The combination of raw power, poise and noise is breathtaking but dial it down and this incredible machine is comfortable and long legged thanks to the 5 speed box. The owner really did make the gentleman's fast road E Type.
