Seen on eBay, 5/2003. Ad reads:
"Very nice, complete and virtually original 1969 Series 2, 4.2 litre XKE Roadster. VIN # P1R10663, in cream with a black interior and top. Having had a 69 2+2 when I was 18 years, (2500 for a 4 year old car back then) I am relatively familiar with these cars and their problems. I was looking for a nice driver for the summers, something without any major problems that I could pick away at over the winter. I found this one in up-state New York and purchased it from what I was told was the 2nd owner. It was registered and on the road when I purchased it, until recently, when I purchased a Ferrari from a friend that I had lusted after for years (the car that is). Mechanical: Engine was removed, dis-assembled, hot tanked, bored 10 over. New oversized pistons, bearings, etc. (I have the receipts), new clutch assembly, & the radiator was flushed. It does not overheat!! The engine has approximate 500 miles on it. Trans shifts smoothly without any grinding of gears or double clutching needed. It could use shocks and brakes eventually if you were to keep it as a driver. Floors/Pans: As you can see from the pix, there are no holes in the front sections of the floors. There are two small holes that do not show in the pictures on both rear outboard corners where the seat belt mounting are. Inner sills feel solid thru the leather covering which is in too good of a condition to rip up just to look. The trunk floor and interior is sold with only a small amount of surface rust here and there. Interior: Need carpet in front where you put your feet, but the carpet behind the seats is good. Both seats need re-upholstery as well as the console armrest and console top. Dash pad is good, but leather covering is loose. All else is good to very good. Windows work smoothly, glass is good except for 2 slight abrasions on the windscreen caused by the wipers. The tach, battery, oil pressure and temp gauges work. The others do not, and most of the dash switches, although in visual good condition do not work. The AM Blaupunket radio does work. There is a split in the shift knob, the emergency brake works, seat belts are good, glove box interior like new. The convertible top mechanisms latch and the top opens and closes normally. The top is in good shape, but does have a hole in it, but who would drive it with the top up, anyway. Exterior Body: All stainless steel trim is present and is in good to very good condition, dent free, although some could use polishing. The wire wheels in good shape, with some rust on spokes, but I would not call them rusty. Red line tires with 90% tread still on them. The bonnet has been restored and repainted. The cowl is solid, there are 2 door dings on each door, otherwise the body is basically dent free. There is no evidence of any accidents that I could find. The bumpers have minor surface rust, but no dents. Trunk and door gaps are virtually perfect and open and close solidly and correctly. Rust: I must have looked at 20 other cars, and heard the expression "normal jaguar rust" from most of the sellers. For those cars this expression means rotten floors, rusty inner and outer sills, no trunk floors, etc. This car does not have this type rust. Here is what is does have. Rust bubbles appearing in a horizontal line on both doors about 1" from bottom. Passenger rocker behind front tire has 1" x 3" rust thru, and a hole in front of rear tire corresponding to the hole in the floor mentioned above. Some bubbling behind pass rear tire. Drivers rocker has rust hole in front 12" under the battery, in front of rear tire like the other side, and a small hole behind the rear tire about 1" square. The only Bondo I could find with a magnet on the whole car is a 2" x 6" area above the rust on the driver rocker. Other than the bonnet, the original paint has faded to semi-gloss. In the boot are the tool pouch with jack, wrenches, and yes, believe it or not, the original knock-off hammer. Also, the convertible top cover for when it is open. I have the original protect-o-plate for this car. I have written out this complete, honest and full description and I congratulate you if you have made it this far. I have a boat load of pictures , and will send them out in groups of 5 if by j-peg. If you want the next set, email, stating which you have received and I will send more. I will not respond to questions, the answers to which are found in this description. I would, however, be happy to take special photos or answer any additional questions for those who were serious enough to read this far. "
