Coys auction, Silverstone, England 7/24/1998 lot #77. Sports Car Market report reads:
"RHD, chrome wire wheels. First delivered to Bill Heynes, Chief Engineer at Jaguar and you can bet the assembly quality was better than usual. Restored in '89 and used since only under clear skies on dry roads."

October 1964 saw the Series I E Type's 3781cc motor capacity go up to 4235cc and though the power output stayed the same, usefully the torque was increased. The 4.2 E also had a new all-synchromesh gearbox, improved brake servo and seats, an alternator and a leather-faced, rather than aluminium dashboard. To comply with increasingly stringent US emission and safety regulations, however, an October 1969 launched Series 2 was also offered in UK showrooms. Headlamps were open rather than closed-in as before, radiator intakes enlarged, one-piece fenders replaced previous split-bumpers with large sidelamps now beneath. US-bound 177bhp engines had twin Strombergs, while European market cars retained their triple SUs and 265bhp engines.
The E Type on offer here, a 1970-built Series 2 4.2 roadster was originally the property of Bill Heynes, Chief Engineer of Jaguar Cars and co-designer of the famous XK engine. Last restored in 1989, a full description and photo-record of the work carried out is included as are invoices said to total some ú30,000, a V5 and an MOT, which is current until May.
Current condition of bodywork is said to be good with paintwork in pale metallic blue and blue interior both also very good. Classic 4.2 six, electrical equipment and 4-speed manual gearbox are reportedly also in very good order. The 75,023 mileage displayed is believed to be the genuine total from new for this super E Type with major Jaguar personality history. We are also informed that the car comes with a hardtop.
