Ebay item 7/2/04
www.bgsoflex.com/megasquirt.html. A laptop computer with software and tuning documentation are included in the sale. Also included is a spare ECU and a simple test unit to enable diagnostic testing of the unit, if required. With these tools and a driver, one can tune the system on the fly; a task I have been unable to safely complete in the max. power, max. rpm range of operation. The engine runs nicely at low and medium speeds but it needs to be tuned on the road with a driver and a knowledgeable passenger manning the laptop. Really, it’s fun.
The transmission is a rebuilt Ford C4 and the rear end is a Jaguar XJ6, 2.88 to 1 ratio gear set rebuilt with new bearings and seals.
Suspension parts, such as ball joints, rod ends, steering rack and pinion (manual), bushings and rear shocks were replaced. Brake calipers were rebuilt with new stainless pistons, seals, hoses and pads as were the master cylinders and servo unit. All four rotors have been turned. The front brakes squeal until hot.
The interior is a mix of new and old leather and vinyl and a new headliner. Carpets are new as are the console cover and other miscellaneous panel coverings. Gauges and switches are original. The gas tank sending unit indicates three-quarters when the tank is actually full. The speedometer and odometer have been recalibrated to reflect accurate speed and mileage. The original tach has not been touched and does not show engine rpm. Rather, a small, inexpensive tach is installed in the clock hole. An AM/FM radio/cassette player is installed.
Appraisal.
Appraised value was $23,500 in October, 2003. Condition of the body, interior and exterior rated “good”, mechanical rated “good/excellent”.
What doesn’t work?
The original driver’s side window regulator was inoperable and a replacement unavailable. A VW Rabbit unit works, but only lowers the glass about 75 percent of the way. The glass has a small(2 inch long) diagonal crack located at the bottom right corner, near the driver's shoulder. The interior courtesy lights are not available, however, all switches and wiring are in place. The parking brake is very weak. I use “Park”. The seats do not easily slide forward or back but can be forced to comply. The rear window defroster terminals are broken off at the glass. A recent transmission fluid spill from the cooler left some fluid on the exterior of the transmission but did no damage. The spare wheel is not original.
