Seller's description:
Auction is for a very rare 1970 Jaguar E-type that I am selling for the widow of my friend who passed away last year. He had owned this Jag for about 25 years and truly loved it.
What makes this Jaguar rare is that it is a series 2 convertible with an automatic transmission and long doors like the series 3 and 2 plus 2 coupes. What it is in fact is a 2+2 coupe that was converted about 35 years ago to a convertible. I was aware that they did this to Ferrari Daytona's but until I saw this Jaguar I had no idea that it was done to E-types also.
This Jag is finished in a red basecoat / clearcoat that is in very good condition. The chrome is also is in very good condition as is the glass. The car seems to be completely rust free.
The car runs well and does not overheat and has good oil pressure. The power brakes work well and the car handles well. It has four matching almost new Coker redline tires. All the gauges work although the voltmeter reads about 1.5 volts low. The lights and turn signals work but the wipers don't. It also has air conditioning but it does not work either. My friend owned the car for over 25 years and never had either repaired as he didn't drive it in the rain or when it was too hot. In fact I never once saw him drive it with the top up!
The issue that does need to be addressed is the power steering leak, it leaves a couple of drips wherever it goes (Jag life)
The drivetrain has not been rebuilt in the time my friend has owned it,but regular maintenance has been performed. It has been upgraded to electronic ignition and modern dual electric fans that are operated from a switch in the dashboard.
The engine compartment will need to be detailed if you plan on showing the car.
The interior is very original and the leather seats are still good although I would dye them.
Overall it is a nice car that can be enjoyed immediately without any major work.
