Private Party Or Dealer: Dealer

This 1972 Jaguar XKE Series III roadster is a rolling project that was acquired in 2011 by the current owner and has since been partially refurbished. Work included a bare-metal repaint in metallic gray, an overhaul of the suspension, and installation of Wilwood front disc brakes. The 7.3-liter V12 short block is fitted with a Rob Beere crankshaft, custom connecting rods, and 10:1 JE pistons, while the cylinder head has reportedly been refreshed but not reassembled. Four-speed and five-speed manual transmissions are included in the sale, along with a body-color hardtop, 15″ wire wheels, aftermarket 17″ wheels, and more as outlined on a parts list below. This E-Type project is now offered on consignment by the selling dealer in Connecticut with cataloged boxes of interior, exterior, and drivetrain components, photos documenting the refurbishment, a car cover, and a clean Florida title in the owner’s name.

The body was stripped to bare metal and received a two-stage repaint in Opalescent Gunmetal Grey following body work by Classic Jaguar of Austin, Texas around 2014. The removed bumpers are included in the sale, along with chrome trim, lighting, and more as outlined below. A color-matched hardtop also accompanies the vehicle, though the chrome trim is missing.

Chrome 15″ wire-spoke wheels with knock-off centers are mounted with 205/70 Michelin Energy MXV4 tires showing 2004 date codes. The rear suspension and differential assembly are said to have been overhauled and a custom-machined aluminum tie-plate installed while the front suspension was refreshed with polyurethane bushings. Braking is handled by front Wilwood calipers and cross drilled discs and rear inboard discs. A set of body-color 17×7″ Image Alloy wheels is included in the sale.

The interior remains stripped apart except for the steering rack, ignition tumbler, parking brake handle, and wood-rimmed steering wheel.

The 7.3L V12 short block was reportedly assembled by the selling dealer with an 84mm Rob Beere Racing crankshaft, a lip seal block, Crower Maxi-light custom made connecting rods, Rob Beere 96mm piston liners, and 10:1 JE pistons. The cylinder heads are said to have been ported and refreshed by Classic Jaguar with bronze valve guides and replacement valves, springs, and lifters, though they are currently unassembled. Photos show the engine mocked with the cylinder heads, cam towers, timing cover, and oil pan for display purposes, and the internal parts have not been installed.

Included Hayward & Scott stainless steel exhaust components consists of four headers, two “Y” pipes, and two intermediate pipes.

A five-speed manual transmission reportedly sourced from Classic Jaguar is included in the sale, along with a Jaguar four-speed manual transmission and a bell housing, though the seller notes that the bell housing and transmissions will not fit the later engine with the larger dowel pins.

A photo book documenting the refurbishment of the body and suspension can be seen in the gallery, along with images and a multi-page inventory of included parts.

The car is titled using VIN Number UC1S20620, which incorporates the chassis number.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
