Selle's description:

Gateway Classic Cars of Atlanta is excited to present a red 1972 Jaguar XKE E-Type convertible with only 18K miles. This numbers matching work of art has been considered a touring masterpiece of timeless design. The XKE can be distinguished as the car that sparred industry changes in both state- of- the art technology and safety improvements. With such advancements as rack and pinion steering and independent front and rear coil spring suspension. Such early technology that we take for granted in today's automotive world. Jaguar was one of the first manufactures to build a car that was not only fast but could handle curves and corners with ease. This Jaguar e-type comes with the much desirable 5.3-liter V-12 engine attached to a 4-speed automatic transmission. The 5.3 liters version produced 282 hp to 295 hp depending on emission controls installed. This vehicle is "For Sale by Owner," displayed at Gateway Classic Cars, who is acting only as a Sales Agent. To see the car in person, it can be seen at our Atlanta Showroom.

Auction description:

Seller: staplz

Location: Cumming, Georgia 30040

Listing Details

Chassis: UC1S20898BW

18k Miles Shown, TMU

5.3-Liter V12

Three-Speed Automatic Transmission

Signal Red Paint

Tan Leather Upholstery

15" Wire-Spoke Wheels

Private Party or Dealer: Private Party

Lot #157111

This 1972 Jaguar E-Type Series III roadster is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 linked with a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. The car is finished in Signal Red over tan leather, and features include a tan soft top, a top boot, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, 15” knock-off wire wheels, quadruple carburetors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an AM/FM radio. The car was refurbished before being acquired by the seller’s late father in 2018. This Series III E-Type is now offered by the seller on behalf of their mother with a clean Florida title.

The car is finished in Signal Red and was repainted during the aforementioned refurbishment. Features include a tan soft top, a matching top boot, uncovered headlights, and a forward-hinged louvered hood. There is a paint chip over the front wheel well and the remote mirror is inoperative.

The 15″ wire-spoke wheels are secured with knock-off spinners and are mounted with Pirelli Cinturato tires measuring 205/70. The Series III E-Type was factory equipped with power steering, and stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors.

The cabin features seating surfaces upholstered in tan leather. Interior amenities include an AM/FM radio, a locking glovebox, and air conditioning, which is inoperative. The seller notes the air conditioning blower motor is noisy.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. An analog clock along with auxiliary gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level are mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 18k miles, approximately 500 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 5.3-liter V12 was factory equipped with quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was rated at 314 horsepower and 349 lb-ft of torque when new. Service in April 2022 reportedly included rebuilding the carburetors and replacing the spark plugs, battery, starter motor, fuel lines, air filters, and check valves. The carburetors were tuned in 2024.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. There is a transmission leak from the bell housing.
