Current bid $29,500 reserve not met, 15 bids 9 days left in auction. Car now said to be in Santa Barbara, California. 91k miles.
Sellers description:
Exceptional, numbers matching, original factory color optioned silver over black leather, fully mechanically restored 1973 Jaguar E-Type V-12 Series III Roadster with extensive records and history and original floors. Having owned many original and restored Series 3 Jaguars throughout the years, this is unquestionably the strongest mechanical example we have ever seen or driven. A Jaguar purist through and through, the previous owner had kept an extensive file on the car including the documentation of its seriously impressive $30,000 mechanical overhaul by noted Jaguar specialists. This is a rust free, original floor example that will be sold complete with its original books/manuals, original tools, and thorough service history.
The body of the car is excellent. The gaps and metal are good and there are no indications of accident history. The original silver over black color combination makes an already menacing Series 3 design look even bolder and more aggressive. As an incredibly strong, original, and correct driver example the paint shows nicely and the original bright work presents itself well. The soft top is in excellent condition and the rear plastic window is perfectly clear and without blemish. The underside of the car is original and incredibly solid. It's obvious that this car has always been properly garaged, regularly driven and maintained, and meticulously cared for by its previous and meticulous long time Jaguar enthusiast owner. The interior on the car is exceptional. The correct black leather seats are nearly perfect, as are the carpets, dash, door panels, rear compartments, etc. Everything just feels right.
It is important to emphasize, and I can't emphasize enough, this Series III Roadster's superior mechanicals. While a serious advancement over the prior Series II cars, the V12s can be an absolute nightmare if their mechanicals haven't been addressed, and frankly, there's almost no deal worth making on one that hasn't had the right kind of work done. The incredibly detailed and nearly as new appearance of the engine compartment does its best to suggest how comprehensive this car's mechanical overhaul really was. The original numbers matching engine has been completely overhauled and rebuilt. The original Borg Warner transmission has been completely rebuilt. The fuel systems, braking systems, cooling systems, carburetion, etc. etc. has been completely overhauled. Steering, suspension, and electrical have all been addressed. All the work that has been professionally performed on this car has all been done with its emphasis on originality and correctness. This car could not be any more enjoyable to drive and experience on our great Southern California roadways. If you have been considering a Series III example for your collection or hobby, please understand that this is a car that you will be able to simply just get in and enjoy. The mechanical work has been done and now is the time to enjoy it for many years/decades to come.
