This 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III roadster is a running project that has been driven less than 150 miles since the seller acquired the car from his father in 2015. The brakes need to be overhauled, and the engine accessories as well as the fuel system, wiring, clutch, and exhaust require work. Finished in silver with a black soft top over black leather upholstery, the car is equipped with a 5.3-liter V12, a four-speed manual transmission, a limited-slip differential, 15” wire wheels, quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, an Alpine CD stereo, and air conditioning. This E-Type project is now offered at no reserve in Mississippi with an inspection report from a 2015 appraisal as well as a Tennessee title in the seller’s name that lists the model as “UD1”.
The car is finished in silver and features a black soft top, uncovered headlights, a forward-hinged louvered hood, a driver-side mirror, a power antenna, dual exhaust outlets, and chrome bumpers with overriders. Bubbling paint and rust around the wheel wells and the bottoms of the doors are pictured in the gallery below along with other imperfections.
Chrome-finished 15″ wire-spoke wheels are secured with knock-off spinners and are mounted with 215/65 BFGoodrich Touring T/A tires. The disc braking system does not work, according to the seller, who states that various “soft parts” on the car require replacement.
The cabin features seating surfaces upholstered in black leather as well as color-coordinated door panels and carpeting. Appointments include an Alpine CD stereo, air conditioning, a heater, and a locking glovebox. Interior wear is shown in the gallery, and rust is evident in the trunk compartment. The air-conditioning system was noted to be leaking during the 2015 appraisal.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. An analog clock along with auxiliary gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level are positioned in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 56k miles, between 75 and 150 of which were added under current ownership.
The 5.3-liter V12 is equipped with quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and auxiliary electric cooling fans. The coolant was flushed and the oil changed in early 2023, the seller tells us. Cited issues include the following:
Carburetors and fuel pump require rebuilding or replacement
Wiring requires replacement
Bearings for belt-driven engine components are squeaky
Driver-side exhaust manifold leaks
The four-speed manual transmission is connected to a limited-slip differential. Rust is noted on the frame and at suspension components. The clutch master cylinder is cracked and leaking. The 2015 appraisal indicated that the shifter jumped between third and fourth gears during acceleration.
A redacted eight-page appraisal document from 2015 notes issues related to the car’s exterior, interior, suspension, drivetrain, and other components.
The Tennessee title describes the car as a 1973 Jaguar UD1.
