Lot #206147

This 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III roadster was acquired by the seller’s father in 1988, and it is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The car is finished in Pale Primrose over black leather, and features include a black soft top, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, 15” knock-off wire wheels, quadruple carburetors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an AM/FM radio. This Series III E-Type is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with the owner’s manual, service records, spare parts, a car cover, and a clean Georgia title in the owner’s name.

The car is finished in Pale Primrose and was repainted prior to the owner’s acquisition in 1988. A replacement black soft top was installed under current ownership and features include uncovered headlights, a forward-hinged louvered hood, US-spec bumpers, and a power antenna. The seller reports that the antenna does not go up and down.

The 15″ wire-spoke wheels are secured with knock-off spinners and were mounted with 205/70 Dunlop Signature II tires in 2022. The Series III E-Type was factory equipped with power steering, and stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The brakes were refreshed in 2021, at which time the front and rear calipers were replaced, along with the pads, rotors, and lines. The seller states that the shocks were replaced and the power steering system refreshed in 2022.

The cabin features seating surfaces that were reupholstered in black leather in the late 1980s as well as color-coordinated door panels. Interior amenities include an AM/FM radio, a locking glovebox, and air conditioning, which is inoperative.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. An analog clock along with auxiliary gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level are mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 74k miles, which the seller states is not accurate. Approximately 3k miles were added under current ownership, and total mileage is unknown.

The 5.3-liter V12 was factory equipped with quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was rated at 314 horsepower and 349 lb-ft of torque when new. The engine is said to have been partially rebuilt in 1988, while the carburetors were refreshed in 2024. The seller states that the fuel pumps were replaced in 2022, and the wiring was serviced in the last four years. The seller notes smoke from the front passenger-side carburetor at start-up after sitting for extended periods.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
