1/2003 Kruse Auction, Scottsdale, AZ lot number 553. Description from Sports Car market:

"Bad gaps, worse chrome (with actual dime-size rust spots). Paint quite good. Interior nice. Looks like someone spent a bunch of money, then quit. Many, many flaws remain. Ran through as Lot #205, 553 and 829, all to similar levels of apathy."

Lot #156151

This 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III roadster is powered by a V12 that has reportedly been increased in displacement to 6.5-liters and is fitted with six Weber carburetors, tubular headers, and electronic ignition. The car is finished in Old English White over tan leather and features a modified five-speed manual transmission, a limited-slip differential, a tan soft top, a top boot, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, 15” knock-off wire wheels, Spax adjustable shocks, a MOMO steering wheel, a CD stereo, and air conditioning. This Series III E-Type was acquired by the seller in 2007 and is now offered with the owner’s manual, service records, spare parts, a car cover, and a clean Ohio title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in Old English White and was repainted in 2001. Equipment includes a tan soft top, a matching top boot, uncovered headlights, a forward-hinged louvered hood, US-spec bumpers, bullet-style side mirrors, and a power antenna. A rear luggage rack is included in the sale. There is a repaired star in the windshield and a tear on the soft top. The seller notes the driver-side window requires adjustment.

Dayton 15″ wire-spoke wheels are secured with knock-off spinners and were mounted with 205/70 Michelin tires in 2009. The Series III E-Type was factory equipped with power steering, and stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors. Spax adjustable shocks and stainless-steel brake hoses have been added.

The cabin features bucket seats that were reupholstered in tan leather in 2001. Interior amenities include a Sony CD receiver, a locking glovebox, a polished shift knob, drilled aluminum pedals, and air conditioning. The seller notes that the turn signal lever needs to be held down in order to operate. There are stains on the driver-side carpet.

The MOMO wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. An analog clock along with auxiliary gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level are mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer is inoperative and shows 99k miles. The seller estimates having driven the car approximately 1,700 miles, and total mileage is unknown.

The V12 was built in 2001 and has reportedly been increased in displacement to 6.5-liters and fitted with six Weber two-barrel carburetors with Longflo filters, aftermarket camshafts, electronic ignition, and tubular headers. An oil change was performed, and the battery replaced in 2020. The seller notes of an oil leak from the rear main seal.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a modified T-5 five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.

Chassis number UD1S21908BW and the VIN on the title omits the “W.”

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
