Lot #187655
This 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III roadster was refurbished between 2019 and 2021 with work that totaled more than $100k and involved overhauling the 5.3-liter V12, resealing the four-speed manual transmission, refinishing the car in blue, and refreshing the interior with replacement red leather upholstery and red carpets. Components for the suspension, exhaust, and four-wheel disc brakes were also replaced or refurbished. The car is equipped with a limited-slip differential, a black soft top, power steering, 15” knock-off wire wheels, and quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors in addition to air conditioning and a Blaupunkt cassette player. This Series III E-Type is now offered on dealer consignment with refurbishment records and a California title.
The body was refinished in dark blue during the refurbishment and is fitted with a black soft top. Additional work included re-chroming the bumpers and windshield pillars in addition to replacing the windshield and various trim pieces, fasteners, and hardware.
Wire-spoke 15″ wheels are secured with knock-off spinners and are mounted with Remington XT-120 tires. Between 2019 and 2021, the front brake calipers were overhauled, a remanufactured power steering pump was installed, and the master cylinder, ball joints, and wheel bearings were replaced.
The refreshed cabin is trimmed in red, and leather upholstery with perforated inserts covers the bucket seats. The red carpets were installed over sound-dampening material, and additional replacement components include the shift knob, pedal pads, door panels, rear speakers, clock, and air conditioning compressor. A Blaupunkt AM/FM/cassette player is located ahead of the shifter.
Smiths instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. An analog clock and auxiliary readouts are mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 58k miles. The selling dealer notes that the mileage is not accurate.
The 5.3-liter V12 was overhauled during the refurbishment work by installing replacement bearings and piston rings, rebuilding the Zenith Stromberg carburetors, and replacing the timing chain, fan motor, water pump, starter motor, and engine harness. An electric fuel pump was installed.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Components replaced during the refurbishment include seals for the transmission along with the clutch, slave cylinder, flywheel, and throwout bearing. The exhaust system was also replaced.
