Auction sold

Lot #31179

private Sale

Caringbah, NSW, Australia

This Jaguar E-Type Series 3 Roadster is a collectible classic sports car, benefiting from a prior restoration and a striking colour combination.

Under the bonnet sits a naturally aspirated a 5.3-litre V12, delivering around 203kW to the rear wheels via a Jaguar four-speed manual transmission.

This E-Type ‘OTS’ was originally delivered to the US market, in left-hand drive and equipped with the automatic gearbox, but it has since been converted to right-hand drive and fitted with the manual gearbox.

It was sold on as a project in 2008, and is understood to have been restored between 2009 and 2014 by one of the previous owners.

The odometer indicates 40,537 miles, though this is not warranted.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

This E-Type is finished in black over a cream leather-trimmed cabin, offset by black piping and carpets as well as a black dashboard.

It rides on a set of 15-inch wire wheels with twin-eared knock-offs and Pirelli whitewall tyres.

Equipment includes a wooden-rimmed steering wheel, Smiths gauges, a Kienzle analogue clock, a row of rocker switches for the major controls, and a lockable glovebox.

A straight-pipe exhaust has been installed.

Accompanying the sale is the logbook and historical paperwork.

CONDITION

There is a conditional NSW registration in place, which expires on 3 April 2025.

SERVICE HISTORY

The car was last serviced in July 2022 at 40,300 miles by Andrea Motori, who replaced the engine oil and filter, tightened the coolant hose clamps due to a leak, greased the suspension bushes and ball joints, and adjusted the lower steering belt and alternator belt. They also discovered and rectified various other leaks, inspected the front and rear brakes, refit a section of chrome trim, repaired the glovebox and one of the headlights, and replaced the accelerator cable, choke cable, and dashboard bulbs.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
