Ebay item 6/13/06
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-Jaguar-XKE-1973-V12-2-2-4-speed-Arizona-ca ...
Current bid $13,100, no reserve, 2 bids, 4 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
This is a classic original 1973 Jaguar XKE 2+2, complete with its original 12 cylinder engine, 4 Stromberg carburetors, chrome wire wheels, and 4 speed transmission. It was purchased brand new in Tucson, Arizona. The original owner put about 40,000 miles on it up until the early '80s, when it went into storage in Texas for the next 20 years. It now has 44,900 original miles, and still sports its original sable color paint. A copy of the original window sticker lists the chrome wire wheels, tinted glass, air conditioning, heated rear window, and AM/FM stereo radio as optional extras purchased with the car when new.

The leather upholstery has been replaced with original style Connolly leather hides from England ("biscuit" color). The braking system was completely overhauled – work authorized by the previous owner (I was told at a cost of $2,000), and included the flexible hydraulic lines, brake calipers, rotors, master and servo. The rear end / differential was removed, with new bearings, seals and mounts installed. The fuel system was serviced (carburetors, fuel lines, fuel pump, fuel tank). The water pump and voltage regulator were rebuilt, and many hoses replaced. The ignition system was checked and repaired as needed. All the gauges work fine (even the clock); the original radio has been removed, completely serviced, detailed and re-installed to look and function as new (with new premium speakers). The four Michelin X Radial Plus tires on the road look virtually new.

On the negative side, the air conditioning has not been looked at yet. It appears to all be there, but the belt is off, and the system should be considered in need of repair. Other than the beautiful new leather upholstery, most all of the cosmetics are original. The good news is that there's nothing hidden; it's easy to see the structural soundness of this vehicle. While the carpeting shows wear and tear, much of that is beneath the new front rubber Jaguar mats. Carpeting in the back looks fine. The dash top has no major cracks, but does have a number of filled-in separations at edges. The wire wheels do not appear to ever have been damaged and still shine very well, but do have some flaking in places from gravel or whatever. The glass all appears original – and was the factory tinted variety, with no cracks; the original rubber seals around the glass are of course dry. The body appears extremely straight and true, but for the usual collection of small dents and scuffs for a 33 year old vehicle. The good news is that it's all there in plain view; no bondo or new paint covering previous accidents. From a distance the paint still looks remarkably shiny and well; but up close there are areas of crazing, scratches, abrasions, and small dents. There is one seven inch (or so) depression below and slightly to the front of the driver door. Other than that, as an original Southwest US automobile, the body in great shape.

I have a number of receipts from the original owner, where he had this vehicle serviced at authorized centers here in Tucson over the 40,000 miles he drove here. Also there's the original owner's manual (tattered but present), owner's document pouch, British Leyland "Passport to Service", and the V12 XKE service manual – in addition to a copy of the original window sticker.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
