Car offered at:
bringatrailer.com/listing/1973-jaguar-e-type/
Sellers description:
Lot #721
Location: Littleton, CO
VIN: UD1S74329BW
53k miles shown
Series 3 2+2 example
V12 / Automatic
Rebuilt fuel system and carbs
This 1973 Jaguar E-Type 2+2 was purchased last year from the grandson of the long-term prior owner who had recently passed away. A Series 3 2+2 model with the V12 engine and automatic transmission, the car had been sitting unused for several years and was not running when purchased. Cosmetically it is very presentable with good paint and a clean interior. The current owner cleaned out the fuel system and installed a new electronic ignition and new exhaust to bring it back to a running state. The car now runs and drives well overall, though there are a few areas that should still be addressed to bring the car back to top mechanical condition.
According to the previous owner's grandson it was repainted in the original silver color sometime in the early 1980s and is still in very good condition, with no evidence of any body rust or prior accident repair. Wire wheels with red-line Michelin tires look appropriate, though the age of the tires is unknown.
The interior presents very well nice red leather and carpet. The seller recently replaced the dash pad and serviced all the gauges while the rest of the interior is said to be in preserved original condition. The windshield washer pump, air conditioner, and heater motor are all currently non-operational. Mileage on the odometer is believed to be correct at 53,000 miles but can't be confirmed with paperwork.
The seller completely rebuilt the fuel system from the fuel tank to the quad Stromberg carburetors in order to get the 5.3L V12 back into running condition. The carbs were rebuilt and tuned by Kat's British in Denver, Colorado. A new electronic ignition and stainless mid and rear exhaust pipes were also installed. The seller has now driven the car about 700 miles and says the V12 pulls hard and the automatic transmission shifts properly. The brakes stop the car well without pulling or grinding, though the seller believes the front rotors are slightly warped. The car still could use new shocks and the engine, transmission, and power steering systems all exhibit leaks to one degree or another.
The car comes with a clear Colorado title. No documentation or repair history prior to the recent work completed is available. The seller has already done the bulk of the hard work needed to bring the car back to life after long term storage, leaving the next owner a few manageable projects away from a nice E-Type driver.
