This 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III 2+2 has remained under single-family ownership for two decades, and work in preparation for the sale involved resealing the three-speed automatic transmission, overhauling the ignition system, and replacing the right exhaust manifold and the brake master cylinder. Powered by a 5.3-liter V12 and finished in Dark Blue, the car is equipped with a limited-slip differential, 15″ wire wheels, and power steering in addition to Biscuit leather upholstery, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, an Alpine CD stereo, and R134a-based air conditioning. This Series III E-Type is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, the owner’s manual, service records, and a clean Minnesota title in the owner’s name.
The car is finished in Dark Blue and features uncovered headlights, a forward-hinged louvered hood, and a power antenna. Damage to the lower portion of the front end is noted.
The 15″ wire-spoke wheels are secured with knock-off spinners and are mounted with BFGoodrich Silvertown Radial whitewall tires. The Series III E-Type was factory equipped with power steering, and stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The steering rack was replaced in 2007, while the brake master cylinder, and brake hoses, were replaced in 2024.
The 2+2 cabin features front bucket seats and a reach bench seat upholstered in Biscuit leather. The front seats were refreshed in 2003. Interior amenities include an Alpine CD stereo and a locking glovebox. The air conditioning system was converted to utilize R134a refrigerant in 2003.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. An analog clock and gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level are mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 39k miles, approximately 5k of which were added under current ownership.
The 5.3-liter V12 was factory equipped with quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was rated at 241 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque when new. The engine was rebuilt in 2000, the cylinder heads were overhauled in 2007, and work in 2024 involved replacing the right exhaust manifold, starter, distributor, and ignition coil as well as resealing the cam boxes.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. The transmission is noted to have also been rebuilt in 2000, and was resealed in 2024.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate lists the original production specifications as well as a dispatch date of June 13, 1973.
