Ebay item 8/1/08
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-XKE-1974-Jaguar-XKE-E-Type-V12-councours-r ...
Opening bid $89,000, no bids yet, 6 days left in auction. 72k miles.

Sellers description:
The car came from the Burbank area in California where it was stored for about eight years. The last owner bought her in 2000 and he went completely through the car, spending about $100,000.- It took him three years to finish it and in 2005 he won "first of class" at the Beverly Hills Concourse, where it went up against some Healey's, Aston Martin's, Roll's and Jaguars (cars built from 1947 to 1974).

The restoration was done by Classic Jaguar of Los Angeles, CA. The owner of the company did most of the work himself with no costs spared.

This car was completely dissembled down to the bare body with doors removed. It was placed on a rotisserie stand and completely striped of all paint and filler. The body was repainted British Racing Green which came on this car when new. This was a Southern California car all its life and was absolutely no rust anywhere to be found when it was completely stripped. All chrome was triple chromed and all stainless parts were hand polished. The wiring in the body was replaced. The gas tank was boiled out and repainted. Underneath the car was undercoated with a special paint so that it is protected from rust. This car has a original FACTORY HARD TOP which has not been restored but is in good shape. Not many people use the hardtop and therefore restoring it is a bit a waste of money and time. The Dunlop D65 Touring Elite P205/70R15 tires, mounted on 72-spoke wire wheels are
in near new condition.

The interior is from Bassett in Canada who buys from the original manufacturer in England. It is Connelly leather. The Carpet is the original wool type that was used in the new cars. The interior alone cost $12,000 installed, including the new soft top and the dash padding. All the switches on the dash were taken apart and new contacts were installed. A Sony Cd/AM-FM radio was installed with the factory electric antenna. All the new cars had dealer installed radios. They did not come from the factory with them. The speedometer shows the exact mileage for this car. All gauges were completely restored and hand painted. The mileage was not reset to zero, so it shows the true mileage for this car.

The engine was completely dissembled with the crank shaft and rods checked for any wear. The crank was polished and balanced and the rods were checked for cracks and balanced. They all were in perfect shape. The block was bored first over and new balanced aluminum forged pistons were installed. The heads were completely taken apart, replacing most parts with new ones. This car was designed to run on leaded gasoline, so the valves and valve seats were replaced with stainless ones, so that UNLEADED GAS WILL NOT HURT THIS ENGINE. The cams were replaced with better ones for improved performance. Carbs were completely rebuilt and polished. It has the upgraded Jaguar solid state ignition that was relocated to the front of the engine compartment per. New alternator, fan motors and HIGH VOLUME ALUMINUM RADIATOR was installed for a cool running motor. Under the bonnet everything other than major engine and transmission components were replace with new ones, not rebuilt ones. This includes all pumps, belts, wiring harness, hoses and clamps. The transmission was completely dissembled and all clutches parts were replaced, including the torque converter. A new air conditioner pump was also installed. Notice the anodized bronze fittings on the end of the pump and hoses. This was like the way it came new.

All suspension part were cleaned and inspected. They were then sent to a plating shop where they were re-cadmium plated just as the factory did when it was built. You will notice in the pictures that some of the plating has a bronze look. This was the correct color when new. The brake calipers were re-cadmium plated and then rebuilt. The new front rotors were drilled and cross grooved for improved braking and to keep them from squealing. The shocks are Bilstein gas front and rear. New springs in the rear and new torsion bars in the front. The rear end was completely dissembled and all bearings, seals, u-joints and bushing were replaced. The only thing that was reused was the housings, shafts and ring gear and pinion. It has a 2.73 ratio for open road driving. She has about 1,450 miles on it since the complete restoration and she still shows fantastic. She shifts unbelievable smooth, brakes are perfect and she truly is a pleasure to drive.

The car comes with the original owners manual a repair book and also the jack and hammer and a boot cover and trophy.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
