Lot #123879

This 1974 Jaguar E-Type Series III roadster is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The engine is said to have been rebuilt during a refurbishment completed in 2010, and additional work included refinishing the exterior in green and reupholstering the interior in black leather. Features include a black soft top, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, 15” knock-off wire wheels, quadruple carburetors, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, a Clarion cassette stereo, and air conditioning. Maintenance in preparation for the sale included rebuilds of the carburetors, an oil change, relining the fuel tank, and the replacement of the fuel lines. This Series III E-Type was acquired by the selling dealer in February 2023 and is now offered at no reserve with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, the owner’s manual, and a clean Virginia title.

The car left the factory finished in Sable and it was refinished in green in 2010. Features include a black soft top, uncovered headlights, a forward-hinged louvered hood, and a manual antenna. Paint chips are visible on the right-rear wheel arch.

The 15″ wire-spoke wheels are secured with knock-off spinners and are mounted with Pirelli P400 tires. The Series III E-Type was factory equipped with power steering, and stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors.

The cabin was refurbished and features seating surfaces reupholstered in black leather as well as color-coordinated door panels. Interior amenities include a Clarion cassette stereo, wind-up windows, a locking glovebox, and air conditioning.

The wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. Auxiliary gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level are mounted in the center stack as well as a refurbished analog clock. The five-digit odometer shows 2k miles, and total mileage is unknown.

The 5.3-liter V12 was factory equipped with quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was rated at 241 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque when new. The engine is said to have been rebuilt in 2010, and the selling dealer states that service in 2023 included rebuilds of the carburetors, an oil change, relining the fuel tank, and the replacement of the fuel lines.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists a date of manufacture of December 21, 1973, and lists factory specifications.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
