Ebay item 3/20/05
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Opening bid $24,000.00 (Reserve not met), no bids, 6 days left in auction. 47k miles.

Sellers description:
My father bought this XKE in the late 70s, and we have owned it since. The car was originally a light blue, but we painted the car the silver in the early 80s. Since then, the paint has been maintained. The car has not been driven much since 1986, when my father passed away. My mother held onto the car for sentimental reasons. I am sentimental about the car, too; but I am also 6'4" and weight 240. Ergo: I'm prepared to pass the car onto someone in a better position than enjoy and appreciate the car.

I am lucky to have George Camp, in Columbia, SC (George Camp Restorations) to help me with the car's maintenance. George tells me that down-stream I will need to rebuild the engine again. The last time it was rebuilt was in the early 80s by a Jaguar dealer in Laurel, MD. At that time, the car had a mild cam installed. Otherwise, the car is stock to the best of my knowledge. The car has likely been driven under 5,000 miles over the past 20 years.

The car passed into my hands about 3-4 years ago. I live out in the country and run the car weekly, and it likes being driven.

The car has the 3 SU carbs and compression is 140+ in one cylinder last time checked, rest 150s to 160. The engine revs into the red-line under a load without . The car had been sitting and had used oil, but that seems to be lessening as put some miles on the car. If I kept the car, I would replace or rebuild the SUs. The car mechanically kept up with any suspect parts replaced. The gas tank, gas pump, gas lines are new. Mallory ignition from Terry's less than a year ago. The soft top is new. The car has no over-heating problems. Tires are new.

I am located in South Carolina.

Car returns to ebay 5/22/05
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Opening bid $30,000, no reserve, no bids yet, 6 days left in auction. Car is now located in Gulf Breeze, Florida, USA.

Sellers description:
I bought this car on e-bay a couple of months ago. When I got it I noticed the seats were in need of recovering but otherwise the car is as described by the previous owner. When I took it in to have the seats recovered I found the car of my dreams and bought it. Now I have two collectors and the wife says one of them has to go so here I am. This is a really nice car I would love to keep but if I want to stay married...

Previous auction ended at $24,000 (Reserve not met) , bids received.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
