Car to be at auction 7/14
classiccars.brightwells.com/viewdetails.php

Auction description:
Lot number 145
Estimate £23,000 - £26,000
Description Jaguar E-Type S1 4.2 Coupe
Registration NGU 295D
Year 1966
Colour Red
Engine size 4,235 cc
Chassis No. 1E 21102
Engine No. YE 6617-9

The chassis number of this 1966-registered Series One 4.2 FHC confirms that it was sold new in the UK as a right-hand drive model, leaving the factory towards the end of 1965. It has had just four owners from new, the log book showing that the first owner kept it until 1978, the second until 1981 and the third until 1995 at which point it was purchased by the vendor.

Spotted in the Jaguar Enthusiast Magazine, it had been the subject of much restoration work and was showing an indicated 6,000 miles on the odometer when acquired. The vendor used the car regularly, including a trip to France after which it fell into disuse, although it has been regularly presented for its annual MOT (15 on file), the latest of which expires in August 2014. Now showing some 20,000 miles on the clock, the vendor believes that this is the mileage covered since it was restored sometime in the early '90s. It has a Falcon stainless steel exhaust with its guarantee card.

Its last major outing was to the E-Type celebration at Silverstone in 2013, a round trip of nearly 400 miles which it covered without fuss. In sound, if slightly 'shabby chic' condition, this desirable UK Series One Coupe can be used as it is, or improved as time and funds allow.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
