Car offered at:
www.stableltd.com/inventory.aspx
Asking $35,000.
Sellers description:
We have known this unmolested, numbers-matching Series I 4.2 XKE for about 25 years. The vehicle was purchased by the founder of The Stable in the mid-80's from a Morristown (NJ) woman who we believe was the second owner of the vehicle. He used it as a personal vehicle for about five years, after which it was sold to a local client who we have done a great deal of business with over the years. After nearly a decade of enjoyment, the vehicle once again found its back to our showroom. Yet another local client and friend took the reigns around 2000, owning it until the present day. As far as restoration and body work goes, it has had very little work done over the years. The first person we sold the vehicle to had the car repainted and recarpeted (black on black is the vehicle's proper scheme). Otherwise, it is as original of an E-Type as one could possibly hope to find in this price range. With about 75,000 miles, the engine has never been rebuilt and remains in good running order. Of course, it is a 1965 Jaguar and is not entirely without issues. Simply put, the brakes are sticky and are certainly in need of some work. Otherwise, she is a very happy driver. The only other issue that needs to be addressed is the obviously missing front bumper. For whatever reason, the vehicle has never had a bumper as long as we've known it. More than likely, it was in a small fender bender years ago, the bumper was damaged and simply never replaced. Another possibility is that the bumper was removed for use on another vehicle. In either case, the car shows absolutley no signs of front end damage whatsoever and, for various reasons, every owner of the past 25 to 30 years decided to leave the car as is (when the car was repainted, the then-owner contemplated resolving the issue and putting one on; ultimately, he liked the way it looked without the bumper and decided to fill in and paint over the holes the bumper would have fixed to). All-in-all, this is a very solid, true-to-form Series I 4.2 XKE. It is certainly a driver's car, though it undoubtedly has the potential to become a real contendor while still leaving room for profit.
