Sellers description:
The restoration was done at 92500 miles, the odometer currently reads 7228. It has been driven just over 14700 miles since this work was done. The car has been driven lightly averaging about 1500 miles a year since the work was done and always garaged. The car is very tight, starts, drives, and runs very very well.The car has been shown and won several trophy's/awards over the years, they will be included with the sale along with several Jaguar books,Jaguar manual and parts book. I will gladly take more pictures or provide more info on request. All work performed on the car during restoration are listed in the details that follow.
EXTERIOR BODY:
Bare metal rebuild including new bonnet and left wing. Shell was stripped down to metal, dings were repaired, then body received rust primer, filler coats, 3 prime, 4 base and 4 clear coats of premium quality Sikkens Base Coat/Clear Coat system. The finish was rubbed down and hand glazed.
The insides of the sills and doors were coated with rust proofing and the engine compartment was fully detailed with the engine removed. All rubber door, window and other seals were replaced. The bumper, over riders and other trim pieces were straightened and re-chromed. The paint color is the original factory Opalescent Silver Blue.
INTERIOR TRIM:
The interior was completely re-trimmed using original Jaguar patterns for the leather, wool carpets, vinyls, moquette and headliner and visor cloth. Prior to installation, the floor pans were cleaned, repaired as needed and rust proofed. A new ash tray assembly and a removable face Clarion stereo with 4 new speakers was installed. The interior colors are the factory original Dark Blue with Gray headliner. The seats were re-worked prior to the leather seat covers. The back spare tire access were built with new wood.
ENGINE:
Complete overhaul of the 4.2 liter DOHC engine. Engine was removed, the block and heads were cleaned, magnafluxed, pressure tested and the new seals, springs and guides, new hardened seats, new cam bearings valves shimmed and the cam follower guides were pinned with a hold down kit.
The block was bored to receive all new 9 to 1 pistons and rings. The crankshaft and rods were totally reconditioned, the main saddles were line bored. New rod and main bearings were installed, new oil pump, timing chains, tensioners and guides, all new pin bushings, soft plugs, gaskets and seals.
All internal assemblies were balanced as was the surfaced flywheel and the new clutch assembly. Another new clutch was subsequently installed at 107150. The block and head were painted and the aluminium valve covers and intake manifold were polished. The correct acorn head and valve cover nuts, the "D" style chrome washers all are new.
DRIVELINE:
The gearbox was rebuilt with all new bearings, gaskets, seals, syncros and a new layshaft. The Independent Rear Suspension was gone through with new bearings seals and gaskets. The rear halfshafts also have new bearings seals and gaskets and all U-Joints on the driveline are new.
FRONT END:
New suspension bushings, tie rods, ball joints and rack boots were replaced along with new seals on the repacked front wheel bearings. All suspension parts were cleaned and repainted as original.
BRAKE SYSTEM:
Totally rebuilt with re-sleeved rear cylinders, new front cylinders, new front rotors, turned rear rotors, all new brake pads including emergency brake. Rebuilt master and servo and slave, brake lines replaced as necessary. Brake reservoir bottles are new.
FUEL SYSTEM:
All three S.U. carbs rebuilt and tuned. New fuel pump and filter.
EXHAUST SYSTEM:
Exhaust manifolds have been ceramic coated, restudded and installed to a new stainless steel exhaust system with chrome show quality resonators. All the correct brass and copper nuts and washers on the manifolds are new.
SHOCK ABSORBERS:
All six shocks wre replaced with Spax English racing shocks, fully adjustable on the car.
COOLING SYSTEM:
A new super cool radiator with twice the internal tubes and fins was installed along with all new hoses. An auxiliary cooling fan with seperate control was installed.
WHEELS AND TIRES:
Four Avon English radial tires were mounted and properly balanced to the original Dunlop 72 spoke wire wheels. These wheels were reconditioned by British Wire Wheel who replaced them with stainless steel spokes tuned and balanced them.
