Recently purchased. This is approx. a 20-25yo Resto-Mod. All body and chassis is original and fully restored. Drive train is a 302cu.in Ford with 351 heads, C-5 transmission, Holley 4bl carb. and B&W shifter. Paint is 1990 Oldsmobile bright red. Interior is restored beige leather with an after market wood dash, wood steering wheel, and S&W guages. A fast driver and a real head turner.

Seller's description:

Offered for sale, from KURT TANNER MOTORCARS, is this exciting E-type fitted with an American drivetrain. This car was recently purchased from it's long term Florida owner from 1979, who is believed to be the car's third owner. This car was converted to it's current drivetrain years ago, most likely when the original Jaguar drivetrain wore out. It appears to be a careful and conscientious conversion, installing the engine and headers AROUND the front subframes with some reinforcement, being cautious not to cut into these structural members. 

The body on this car is quite decent overall with OK panel fit. There is some minor bubbling showing down low on the rocker, in front of the driver's door and on the passenger's B-post. There's also some minor rust on the outside of the dipped floor pans, an easy repair. The paintwork is older with some chips/ shrinkage but is still showing very glossy, being perfectly fine and attractive for a fun driver. Chromework is mostly good original with replated main bumpers and taillight housings. All of the glass looks nice and appears to be tinted, a nice option on a small closed car. 

The car's interior is in beautiful, excellent condition overall, appearing that is was restored in beige along the same time as the paintwork. This included the correct headliner, panel kit, wool carpet kit, front leather seat kits, top pad, etc. The custom-made wood dashboard is a nice touch. There is a smaller wood wheel fitted that provides more space for taller drivers. The two main gauges fitted are Stewart Warner units, functioning correctly along with the original instruments. 

The car's engine is a Ford 302 ci unit fitted with 351 cylinder heads, bored .030 over with TRW 9-1 pistons fitted. It's fitted with a hotter cam with , 4-barrel Holley carb, headers, and Mallory distributor. The engine starts quickly and easily with little smoke on choke, but soon clears when it warms up. The car runs, drives, stops and steers as expected and drives happily and reliably down the road, with that fun V-8 torque and grunt. 

Overall, a very attractive E-type V-8 Coupe with the earlier S1 light configuration. This car was carefully converted years ago and is the ideal driver for the enthusiast desiring American power in a beautiful English sports coupe.

Wow! My dad built this car when I was a kid and remember it as very fast as well as some of the hood modifications that had to be made. My dad passed away in 2019 and we had been looking for this car for years and assumed it was lost. Please be in touch as we have a ton of build photos from back then.

@Pauls: I have attached a couple of files to supplement the history. These are dated August 1978 and show the car in various stages of completion. The bald guy with no shirt is Doug Smarr, a DC firefighter, the guy straining to push the engine in is my dad and the other fellow sporting the brown polyester pants is my uncle Dennis (the little kid is me…44 years ago).

The car was black when my dad bought it and it was repainted in primrose yellow after receiving the engine transplant. I have vivid memories of the hood bulge being cut at the back - about 10-12 inches and 6-8 inches across before being re-welded and smoothed. There are some comments on the build specs that sound right to my recollection but will see if I can find anything else. My dad worked as a pilot for the Teamsters Union at the time and had blocks of days off to mess around with cars.

We lived on a cul-de-sac in Herndon, Va. and he would draw a one-foot square in chalk in the center of the pavement and do smoky donuts with the aim of keeping the left front tire in the box. Of course, the police showed up and of course they ended up having a beer with my dad...

Further antics including an unsanctioned race of a then new Trans-Am on Indian Head Highway in Southern Maryland which contributed to my mom demanding the car be sold. Let me know if you ever want to sell it, I’d be happy to buy it and take my mom for a ride!
