This 1968 Jaguar XKE Series 1.5 2+2 coupe is a running and driving project that was acquired by the seller in September 2020. Subsequent work involved refinishing the body in black, installing a PerTronix electronic ignition coil, a ceramic-coated exhaust manifold, and a stainless-steel exhaust system as well as replacing the piston rings, valves, spark plugs, timing chain, fuel pump, starter, alternator, front shocks, tires, and hydraulic cylinders. The car is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six linked with a four-speed manual transmission and is equipped with red leather upholstery, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and Smiths instrumentation. This XKE 2+2 coupe project is now offered at no reserve with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, manufacturer’s literature, parts receipts, hand-written service logs, spare parts, and a salvaged California title in the seller’s name.

The car was finished from the factory in Cream and repainted black in preparation for the sale. Replacement components are said to include the rear window, left-side mirror, and rubber seals. The seller notes that the windshield is cracked and the lower chrome trim need to be replaced. The rear door latch and right-side bonnet latch are not installed, the windshield wipers do not work, and the bonnet needs to be adjusted, per the seller. There is a dent in the body behind the right rear bumper.

Chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels are wrapped in 205/65 Sentury Touring tires that are said to have been mounted under current ownership. A matching spare is housed beneath the cargo area floor. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The brake master cylinder and front shocks were reportedly replaced under current ownership.

The floors and inside of the firewall are lined with sound insulation material and covered with red carpets, while the front bucket seats and contoured rear seats are trimmed in red leather. The radio is missing, the hazard switch does not work, and the seller reports that the heater is not connected. There are cracks on the dashboard and center console trim as well as stains on the cargo area floor.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer, both of which do not work. An analog clock and ancillary readouts are located in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 48k miles, approximately 500 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six is equipped with dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors. The seller reports that electrical repairs were performed under current ownership and that components replaced or installed include the following:

An exhaust leak below the manifold is reported.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. The seller states that a stainless-steel exhaust system was installed and that the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder were replaced under current ownership.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists serial numbers, factory colors, and a build date of May 9, 1968.

Spare parts will accompany the car along with parts receipts and hand-written service logs.

The California title carries a “Salvaged” brand.
