The Condition
We are advised of some paint deterioration on the right hand side
This is not immediately visible in the photographs
The bodywork presents well with no visible bubbling or corrosion
Chrome wire wheels of correct profile in good condition with no tarnishing visible
Good chromework across car with no noticeable damage or deterioration
Clear, undamaged lights showing no cracks or misting
Sliding Webasto-style sunroof with clean, operational trim surround
Original interior with black leather seats showing light patination
Some wear visible across other oft-trafficked areas such as mats, sills and centre armrest
Factory correct fittings including period correct Motorola radio
The only deviation from standard appears to be a smart Moto Lita wheel
Dashboard shows no visible cracks and switchgear is complete and operational
We are advised of some paint deterioration on the right hand side
The Series 2 FHC retained the sweeping lines of the original short wheelbase E-Type and the dark blue paintwork of this example shows them off to good effect. It provides a pleasing contrast to the chromework that neatly accentuates these lines, helped along by this car’s smart chrome wire wheels.
The bodywork was restored in 1989 and has held up remarkably well, the panel fit across the doors being particularly good. The long Webasto-style sunroof is a welcome addition to the usability of this iconic car.
Inside there are some signs of use across the black leather seats as well as the sills and centre armrest, but arguably this only adds to the sense of character and patina of this 54 year old car. The trim, dashboard and fittings are well presented and there is even a period-correct Motorola radio.
The Mechanics
4.2litre Jaguar XK engine delivering 265bhp
Triple SU carburettors
0-60mph in 7secs when new
Disc brakes fitted front and rear
4spd fully synchromesh gearbox
Appears to be a matching numbers car with correct ‘7R’ prefix E-Type Series 2 engine
For the Series 2 Jaguar changed little about the running gear, primarily because it continued to work so well even eight years after the first cars left the factory. That means the torquey 4.2litre XK engine remains, mated to the slick 4spd manual gearbox.
Series 2 E-Types were equipped with ‘7R’ prefix engines and this car appears to be so fitted and to be a matching numbers example. We are told that it drives and brakes correctly, although the seller advises that the synchromesh on 2nd gear is a little worn.
The car has recently been attended to by TonCar, a classic car specialist in Berkel en Rodenrijs.
