This particular S2 Coupe was built in 1968 for the American market and remained across the Atlantic until it was brought back to the UK earlier this year, having been in dry storage in the States since 1976.

Appearing to be in exceptionally sound and original condition throughout with good panel gaps and no signs of any previous significant restoration, it has green Sundym glass and is believed to be complete apart from the seats and the bumpers, although bidders are advised to satisfy themselves on this point by personal inspection.

The numbers on the engine and the chassis match those on the original chassis plate making this a 'matching numbers' machine. We are told that the engine still turns freely and the car rolls easily. It comes with a NOVA reference confirming that all duties have been paid and a US Certificate of Title, so getting it UK-registered should be a simple process with the requisite DVLA form.

It is rare to find unmolested E-Types in such sound condition as this one so restoring the car to its former glory should be relatively straightforward. With E-Type values seemingly on a relentless upwards trajectory of late, it should amply reward the remedial works now required and could be converted to RHD if desired using a kit of parts readily available from specialists like SNG Barratt.

Vehicle: Originally exported to USA and converted to RHD during its recent restoration in the UK. This FHC had a bare metal, ground up restoration carried out between 2018 and early 2020. It includes many new panels and a respray in its original colour. Freshly finished and running beautifully it is a matching numbers example.

Outside: Bodywork was stripped to the bare shell and corrosion cut away. New panels fitted include a complete floor pan, inner and outer sills, boot floor, rear lower quarters and door skins, meticulouly re-assembled to give excellent panel gaps. All external chrome including the wire wheels, is largely new. A new windscreen, to include new wipers, has been fitted.

Inside: Complete refurbishment, the front seats and centre console have been recovered in original leather, the door cards and dashboard replaced and new headling installed. The period Motorola radio has been modified to include MP3 and iPod compatability.

Underneath: All mechanical components have been removed, inspected, stripped down and refurbished or replaced as necessary with new bearings, rubber mounts, gaskets and seals. The braking system has been rebuilt, the steering rack and joints renewed. The engine was rebuilt with a skimmed head, new inlet and exhaust valves, camshaft bearings, timing chain, oil pump and fitted with a stainless steel exhaust. A new heater has been fitted and the starter motor, wiper motor and fan motors refurbished.
