Ours is a car which we have known since we opened our showroom 43 years ago when its original (and only) owner (and driver) started servicing the car with us. Finished in original Willow Green with biscuit leather and 15" chrome wire wheels, the car is in fabulous condition and drives as great as it looks. Its most fastidious owner purchased the car on May 22, 1969 from our local Jaguar dealer at a cost of $5,371.09 and maintained it beautifully over the next 47 years. All service records are present as are all original manuals in their original sleeve, the original window sticker and order sheet, all original tools, showroom brochures, factory shop manual, a custom car cover, etc. Willow Green with Biscuit leather and original 15" chrome wire wheels.

Just fully serviced! 83,138 miles. $75,000.

Auction description:

Lot 17

1969 Jaguar XKE Series II Coupe

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

Selling on Wednesday

CHASSIS NO: 1R25487

• Attractive and rare color-trim combination

• Long-term first owner; Known history from new

• Recently serviced; Always pampered

• Equipped exactly as when delivered

• Matching numbers drivetrain

4325cc, DOHC inline six-cylinder engine, dual SU carburetors, 265 HP, four-speed manual gearbox, independent front suspension with transverse wishbones, torsion bars, independent rear suspension with lower transverse links and twin coil springs, four-wheel disc brakes; wheelbase: 96”

In the Spring of 1969, New Jersey resident Charles Frase decided he wanted a sports car. A deposit was left with a local Chevrolet dealer for a new Corvette, but a labor dispute at the St. Louis assembly plant meant it would be a while before his order could be fulfilled. Then his eye caught a glimpse of an E-Type Jaguar, and he retrieved his deposit from the Chevrolet dealer, traveled to Main Auto Sales in Madison, New Jersey, and made a deposit for one of those sporty Jaguars. He placed an order for a new coupe; his color choices were #1, Fawn Tan; #2 Jaguar Beige; #3 Regency Red. A few days later the dealership called up Mr. Frase and announced they had found the perfect car for him, except that it was painted Willow Green. He was told that to get the color he really wanted, it might take a few more weeks to find. Eager to get behind the wheel, he agreed to the green car, even though he had never seen even a sample of that color. Charles then went to a friend and confessed that he really didn’t know how to drive a floor-shift stick, so the friend gave him a crash course in his VW Beetle, and then drove him to dealership to pick up the new Jaguar. They arrived at the dealership immediately after the car was delivered, and Mr. Fraser instantly fell in love. Charles sat in the Jaguar and absorbed the new car smell, tested the ergonomics and gave his approval, but he wanted a few things done. He wanted a set of chrome wire wheels and a set of whitewall tires mounted on them. Mr. Fraser also wanted backlit heater control buttons and the protective glaze finish applied. He did not opt for a radio as he didn’t want the sensuous lines of this sleek coupe broken by a radio aerial. He also requested that the dealership not apply its metal dealer plaque on the car.

Over the next four years, this E-Type Jaguar was his daily driver, of which he took meticulous care. In 1973, it was retired to the garage and used only on nice weekend days, still lovingly cared for. In 1993, the love of his life was ready for a new lease on life, and he gave the car a full cosmetic and mechanical restoration. The car continued to serve Mr. Frase until 2016 when he felt it was safer to let this mighty steed go to a new owner. Acquired by a noted dealer from which our consignor purchased the car, it has really only had one owner from new and today is presented in splendid and well-sorted condition.

Finished in its original color of Jaguar’s Willow Green, the door panels, seats and even the center console armrest are fitted with fine Connolly Biscuit leather that looks, fits and feels like new. Opening the large rear hatch will show that the cargo floors appear fresh and the black rubber weather-seal appears to have been installed quite recently. The dashboard and its gauges appear just as they did when Mr. Frase took delivery of this coupe in May 1969. A complete archive of original order forms, purchase invoices and maintenance receipts are included with this fine vehicle. This includes the original shop manual, showroom brochures and, of course, the original window sticker.

Today, the car’s odometer is showing under 83,200 miles and most all of those were put on the car by Charles Frase under his ownership. The car is still riding on its original 15” chrome wire wheels matched to a modest set of blackwall tires today. Just as it was delivered when new, no radio has ever been installed in this car which also means no holes for an antenna have been drilled in the original sheet metal. Mechanically, the original numbers-matching engine is sound, and this E-Type retains its original gearbox and other related items. Loved and cared for since new, the story of this car is ready for the next chapter to be written by a caretaker that will share the same amount of affection as Charles Frase gave for the first 47 years of its life.
