Sellers description:
1969 JAGUAR E-TYPE XKE 4.2 LITER SERIES TWO FIXED HEAD COUPE. ORIGINAL COLORS: OPALESCENT SILVER GREY WITH BLACK TRIM. 4-SPEED. CHROME WIRE WHEELS. CALIFORNIA CAR, TWO-OWNERS. MATCHING NUMBERS. EXCEPTIONAL CAR FOR EASY RESTORATION.
Offered for sale here on Ebay, from KURT TANNER RESTORATIONS, is this very nice Jaguar for easy, straightforward restoration with a rebuilt engine. This car was recently purchased from only the second CA owner who acquired it from the original owner in 2011. It still retains it's pair of California license plates, "069 XKE". It is a full matching numbers car which left the factory in the original and highly attractive color scheme of Opalescent Silver Grey with black leather trim. It's last registration was from February of 1983, revealing a life of use of only 14 years ! It is a highly well-preserved example that is completely rustfree and accident-free. It is a very complete car with no missing items noted. Much care has been taken to keep all the parts boxed and organized in the last 4 years.
This car was carefully, partially disassembled for a quality respray and engine rebuild starting with the second owner in 2011. The engine was completely machined by a local specialist and re-assembled by a trusted Rolls-Royce service/repair shop to the amount of over $8,000. The carburetor set was completely rebuilt with new kits, as well as a new clutch purchased. The engine and gearbox are currently placed in the car for shipping purposes, and the engine is properly detailed to factory specifications.
The body on the car is currently in Epoxy primer. It is exceptionally straight and rustfree, as seen by the photos, with little required going forward for topcoat. The subframes are still painted in the original factory silver grey paint, and would most likely just clean up fine. The doors and hatch lid fit perfectly. The hood needs some minor shimming for alignment from some earlier disassembly.
The interior trim on this car is in exceptional original condition and would require just a good cleaning. The dashboard and dash top pad are excellent and original. The seats have been re-trimmed in correct black leather at some point and are excellent as well. Even the original headliner is in fine shape. The door panels are near perfect. The car includes it's original Dunlop spare tire and rim.
The lights, bumpers, chrome trim, quarter windows, and rear glass have been removed for paintwork. They are in very good overall condition. Everything has been saved, even the old rubber items, and are pictured and included with the sale of the car.
Overall, this Jaguar presents an economical way to enter the escalating E-type market with an attractive Series Two Coupe in a great original color scheme. This car has clearly been well-preserved here in Southern California with it's few owners, and is most likely the best '69 FHC available for improvement on today's market. It also has the bonus of a rebuilt engine by a trusted shop.
This car can be viewed by appointment and is sold with it's clear and early California title from the original owner, matching it's license plates.
