Ebay item 8/8/07

Opening bid $7,000, no reserve, no bids yet, 5 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
1969 E-Type Jaguar powered by a 1969 Ford 302 with a Ford 4 speed manual transmission. The engine has an Edelbrock F4B hi-rise intake manifold with a Holley Double-Pumper sitting on top of it.

Because of the engine swap the car was given a unique CT VIN number when it was registered to me 13+ years ago by the state of Connecticut. There are no liens on the car. There is no title for the car, so before bidding be sure your state would allow you to register the car only using a bill-of-sale.

The car is in good mechanical shape, runs well, is currently registered and insured. All gauges are in good working order. The car should be able to be driven home if you live in the area of North central Connecticut. Although the car had been a daily driver for years, I have not driven it a lot over the last 2 years, so I would recommend a good go-through of the car before driving it a very long distance. Remember the car is 38 years old!

I am aware of two things that the car needs mechanically. One is a driver side header. I have a temporary patch on the bad header, but whoever buys the car would need to have it replaced with a custom header at some point. The car comes with a new pair of headers that someone who welds better than I should be able to modify to fit on the car.

There is also a very intermittent brake leak. It is very slow, and comes and goes. The car is parked on a dirt floor so I have not been able to isolate where the leak is coming from. The brake cylinders are fitted with Speed-Bleeder bleeder screws, making any brake work a lot easier to do.

Body wise the Jag needs a paint job. I restored the car back in 1996 and over the years the paint has faded and has lots of water spots on it.

There is some rocker panel rust, but the car comes with a pair of new spare rocker panels.

The center of the bonnet is fiberglass because it had to be raised up a bit to fit the hi-rise manifold. There is some cracking where the fiberglass meets the steel.

There is a 4 inch crack in the windshield. The other glass in the car looks good.

I have owned the car for over 13 years. I have no idea how many miles are on it but I have driven the car about 50,000 miles. I have done most of the repairs on the car myself. What follows is a list of repairs starting with the most recent first.

Last year. New tires. Master brake cylinder. Mallory distributor sensor and ballast resistor.

Two years ago a new clutch. And while I had the motor out I replaced the front and rear transmission seals just to be safe. Replaced the relocation oil filter at that time, because... well... I broke the old one getting the motor back in the car.

From this point on I don't remember exactly when I did these repairs but they were done between 3 and 10 years ago.

Rear brake cylinders bored out and sleeved. Also installed new shocks at that time. New starter. New ball joints. New custom coated headers. The passenger side is still good, the driver side has burned through in one spot. New dual exhaust system. New Holley double-pumper carb. Radiator was recored with high efficiency core. Installed new radiator hoses at that time also.

The engine had a valve job done on it about 10 years ago. Hardened valve seats were installed so non-leaded gas can be run safely in the motor. New Oil pump installed around that time also. New leather seat covers were also installed about 10 years ago. Overall the seats are very good but the outside panel on the drivers side is showing some wear. New dash board top installed around the same time. That still looks good.

I am selling my Jag for two main reasons. One is we are planning on moving south next year and there is only so many things we can bring with us. The other reason is that the car needs another restoration to make it look good again, and after doing it once I really don't think I got it in me to do it again.

The original plate is gone. If I remember the state took it when the issued the car the new VIN number. I have a replacement plate on the car with the CT VIN number on it. The original VIN number stamped in the frame by the shock is IR26330

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
