car will be at an auction:
Sale 18419 - Classic California: Collectors' Motorcycles, Motorcars and Related Memorabilia, 13 Nov 2010
California, Miracle Mile
For general information, please click here

Seller's description:
Lot No: 465•
1969 Jaguar Series II XKE Coupe
Chassis no. J691R26748
Continuing on the legend created by the XK120, and subsequent 140 and 150, the XKE was received by the press and public to the very highest acclaim. With 150mph performance, superb handling, the car delivered on all the promises of its stunning looks. Mechanical developments in the first few years included enlarged engine capacity to 4.2 liters, uprated cooling system, fully synchronized transmissions, and interior design and appointments to turn the car in to the ultimate grand tourer of the day.

The car on offer here, has been enjoyed by the same owner since 1976. Soon after purchasing the car from the 2nd owner, then in white livery, our vendor had some extensive mechanical work carried out at Expertic Jaguar of Santa Ana, CA. From the mid 1980s, the car was maintained by marque experts, Britalia Import Auto, Fullerton, CA. Now, in dark blue with black leather interior and chrome wire wheels, the car presents well, having been sympathetically restored in the early 1990s. Fresh paint and interior, and an engine rebuild by Britalia, have brought the car back to its former glory. With a 4-speed manual transmission and air conditioning, the configuration makes for a highly desirable classic British Grand Tourer.

Estimate: $25,000 - 30,000

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
