Jaguar launched the 'E' Type in 1961 with the 3.8 litre engine and brought the 4.2 litre unit into the car in 1964. It gave much better bottom-end torque and mid range pickup and of course had the new Jaguar, rather than the Moss, transmission which at last had syncromesh on first gear.
This lovely example dates from 1969 and the previous owner had this car from 1984, seventeen years in total, and under his guidance it was restored in 1991. The body received new sills, a complete new rear-end, a new bonnet, a respray and it was re-chromed and the interior was fully re-trimmed. The steering rack and front and rear suspension were overhauled, the brakes and carburettors were renewed and a major overhaul of the engine were professionally completed it is still in excellent condition today.
The vendor believes that the mileage is correct at just over 100,000 miles and this excellent example comes with the much preferred manual gearbox and is, we are informed, an original right hand drive car.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
