The background to this good-looking example is interesting. It was originally acquired in 1978 by the vendor as an alternative family car to his Lagonda Rapide. It was thought that his wife and two daughters would prefer a more user-friendly and reliable motorcar. Some time was spent searching for the right one; it was thought that a sound body was preferable to mechanics and so it proved to be. This body is in excellent order throughout, sound and corrosion free. Approximately 500 miles were driven in it before the decision was made to begin a restoration. The externals were looked after by Peter McCuloch at Bodytech; namely a full re-spray in the original factory colour of red including new seals around all the glass, boot and door openings. The engine was removed and rebuilt then dynamically and statically balanced by Parisio Engineering. The rear axle was also removed and rebuilt and transmission checked for balance. The front suspension bushes have all been renewed. Ancillaries have also not escaped the vendor's eagle eye; a new exhaust, new chrome wire wheels and correct tyres and a new battery have all been sourced and fitted. The cockpit benefits from fresh seats utilising good quality new black leather with a slightly smaller then normal, leather-bound, Moto Lita steering wheel. As with many things, life got in the way and PHP 838G was dry-stored for the next 30 plus years until earlier this year when it was decided to re-commission her. With some fresh petrol, starting was immediate and a full MoT certificate has just been issued. Apart from a handful of miles pre-restoration, this represents a Series II E-Type that has had all major expenses addressed, supplied with a completely corrosion-free tub and is simply waiting for its next custodian to use it for the purpose for which it was designed. Using that fabulous six-cylinder engine with its triple S.U.'s and looking out over one of the most beautiful bonnets on the planet.
