Car to be at auction 9/17
www.barons-auctions.com/auction_details.php

Auction description:
Jaguar Heritage, Classic and Sports Cars - Kempton Park Sat 16th Sep 2017
E-Type Series 2 2+2
First Registered: 1969
Registration No: NBN 520G
Mileometer: 67,450
Chassis No: 1R 35148
MOT: September 2018
Colour: Pale Primrose

This Jaguar E-Type Series 2+2 has been owned by the vendor since 1977. It is said to be in very good original condition for its age, probably because it has always been garaged. It has done 67,500 miles which is warranted, and has only had 3 owners.

The car has been regularly serviced and maintained, and there are piles of original receipts for work and parts going back 40 years. There is no known rust, the interior is good, and the exterior is said to be excellent, it has good tyres all round, and a full stainless steel exhaust. The car has a fresh MOT and is ready for immediate use, it comes with a manual, some odd spares, Jaguar key ring, a mounted E-Type Model, and the original green log book. The car is not concours but a solid genuine low mileage, low owner car.

Guide Price: £22,500 to £27,000

Car returns to auction 11/17

Auction description:
Registration Date 1969
Make & Model Jaguar E-Type S2 2+2 Coupe
Colour Primrose Yellow
Registration Number NBN 520G
Chassis No. 1R3514-S
Engine size 4,235 cc
Engine No. 7R-36204-9
Documents V5C; original green logbook; MOT September 2018 with no advisories; 4 old MOTs; invoices back to 1976
Estimate £48,000 - £52,000

As the original green logbook confirms, this particular 2+2 was first registered in Lancashire in February 1969. It then had three or four owners before being acquired by the current keeper in 1977. Always kept garaged during his 40-year ownership, the car remains in remarkably original condition throughout and is showing only 67,500 miles on the clock which is said to be correct and is backed up by various documents on file.

Always properly maintained, it comes with a good sheaf of invoices to show regular upkeep including a gearbox rebuild in 1976 at 41,131 miles and a major engine overhaul with new main bearings and big ends in 1977 at around 50,000 miles, followed by a top end rebuild with new valves/guides/stems etc in 1980 at 64,000 miles.

In 1999 the bodywork was tidied up with a new driver's door skin and sill repairs and a stainless steel exhaust system was fitted. In 2001 it was treated to new carpets, headlining and fabric sunroof, while the brakes were fully overhauled in 2009 with new discs and pads all round (including the handbrake) and many of the suspension bushes replaced.

A ramp inspection reveals that the car is exceptionally solid and original underneath with no signs of any significant previous repairs. The bodywork is equally good with excellent panel gaps and doors that close easily with a reassuring clunk. The biscuit hide interior is nicely mellowed and original with just a small patch of wear on the driver's seat bolster.

Said to drive as well as it looks with an MOT until September 2018 with no advisories recorded, it certainly performed beautifully on a short test drive with good 40psi oil pressure when hot, a commendably smooth gearchange, excellent brakes and a notably taut and rattle-free ride.

Original UK market E-Types are hard to find in this condition, most having been indifferently restored several times over by now. This nicely unmolested and well-maintained 'matching numbers' example, with low mileage and just one owner for the last 40 years, ticks all the right boxes and is well worth a look at the sensible guide price suggested.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
