Seen on eBay, 4/2003. Ad reads:

"You are looking at a 1969, series 2 E-Type with a 4.2 litre straight six cylinder engine, double overhead cams. This has the original Borg Worner 3 speed automatic transmission which can be easily converted to the more sporty Jaguar 4 speed manual gearbox with not much trouble.

The 2+2 series 2 cars have more headroom than the Fixed Head Coupe and is a longer wheel base car than both the Fixed Head Coupe and the Roadster. In the series 2 the windshield was raked out to where the bonnett starts giving it a sleeker look than the series 1 2+2s. Also great storage capacity when the "back seat" is pushed forward but by no means a family car, this car was meant for sport driving!

This car was originally fitted with factory air conditioning which though still in the car is not hooked up. Conversion to a more efficient rotary compressor would be simple and drain less power.

Vehicle Condition

This car had an engine rebuild at 78,000 miles and I have the service records from the previous 2 owners and myself. I just spent $1500 which included carburetors and all fuel linkage system rebuild (dual stromberg DOT mandated emissions control system), Gas tank flushed/cleaned and conditioned, and brakes adjusted. Previously I replaced the costly wiper assembly with a brand new one, a new brake master cylinder was installed, and brakes were rebuilt (front are working fine but back brakes need work).

The car is in need of restoration but is in the perfect place to start. Most everything works. There are two dents, one in the front and one just behind the driver side door. These dents are not from moving wrecks. The dent on the bonnett was from a tree limb that fell on it. The driver's side dent was from a neighbor who backed in to it. Both of these are in the pictures and upon checking them at a body shop I was told they are relatively easy repairs. There is a small amount of rust detailed in the pictures which appears at the bottom of both doors due to bad rubber around the windows and some just at the bottom of the back window. This rust is not severe and the majority of the car is rust free and solid.

The interior is in need of attention, the driver side seat needs to be rebuilt and the dash has some cracks. Overall the interior material is livable in some places but the seat covers are not in great condition. "

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
