Ebay item 7/5/05
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Current bid $18,000.00 (Reserve not met), 1 bid, 6 days left in auction. 95kmiles.
Sellers description:
I am listing this 1971 XKE roadster for a fellow Jaguar enthusiast who has owned clean and clear title to the vehicle for the past eighteen years. During his ownership, he has only driven this automobile under ideal weather conditions and less than 5,000 miles. The gentleman cites professional obligations and other recreational interests as reasons for parting with this vehicle.
This example is one of the last Series II 4.2 roadsters produced by Jaguar prior to the introduction of the Series III V12 during the same model year. As such, it offers safety and comfort features inherent in the second generation evolution of the model with aesthetic attributes reminiscent of the Series I, and lower operating expense than the Series III V12s.
The owner has been very diligent in the vehicle’s mechanical repair and maintenance. This is evident in the vehicle’s operation and full documentation is available. The car starts easily and its engine does not smoke or burn oil. All gauges and safety items are fully operational. The air conditioning system is inoperative, but fully intact. Recent service/repairs include a new clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing, rack and pinion steering, brakes, and shocks (including rear suspension rebuild). The owner has also recently purchased new tires and replaced the original wheels with beautiful Series I style six inch wide Dayton wires.
This Etype is very attractive in the Signal Red exterior and biscuit interior combination, as indicated in the photographs, but it appears to have been originally painted British Racing Green when delivered from the factory. The owner advises it has received one bare metal re-spray approximately twenty years ago.
The car is stored in a climate controlled garage and its exterior finish retains a good luster. The exterior chrome, exhaust resonators and hardware are in very nice condition.
Overall, the body integrity is good with some minor adjustments needed for the bonnet and passenger door hinge. Generally, there are no signs of rust on the body or in typical rust-prone areas as the spare tire well, and the vehicle’s floor pans have been replaced. However, the driver’s side rear fender and quarter panel sheet metal was apparently damaged and improperly repaired, leaving a noticeable seam on the boot near the deck lid and rust forming in an area behind the rear wheel. The interior carpet, upholstery and hood, though not completely original, are serviceable. This XKE is best described as a “twenty-footer” and a very reliable driver, but attention to the issues mentioned and new paint are recommended for prospective buyers desiring to show this car.
This vehicle is being sold as is in the Cleveland, Ohio area and without an expressed or implied warranty.

Car returns to ebay 9/30/08
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-Roadster-1971-Jaguar-E-type-Roadster_W0QQi ...
Current bid $26,000 reserve not met, 1 bid, 5 days left in auction. Car now said to be in Horse Shoe, North Carolina.
Sellers description:
Although titled as 1971, this is a 1970 (built 8/70) Jag. It is a very original matching numbers car with 96,142 original miles. I have maintenance records going back to 1987, $12,127 has been spent maintaining this car. Jag has been driven only 6,100 miles since 1987. Some of the major maintenance done is as follows: clutch and clutch assembly and new trans. seals at approx. 92,000 , rear differential rebuilt including brakes and shocks at 93,000 , steering rack replaced, 4 new 48 spoke crome wire wheels and tires were installed 6/2000 and they still look new. This jag starts easily and runs strong , all cylinders holding 160 psi compression. This Jag is in great condition but is not a show car (great candidate for concourse restore with only minor rust). The car was repainted previous to 1987 ,I don't know exactly . It still looks great at 20 ft. - good at 5ft. Car has 2 dings to metal , one on bonnet ,where someone left the radiator cap laying on top of rad. and closed bonnet on it (see photo) . Also a ding on top of gas filler lid. The interior is the weakest condition of car, seats were recovered without keeping original headrests , carpet was used up the sides of footwells instead of original vinyl material. Dash and all instruments are original and in excellent shape, all working except clock. Convertible top is old ,but in good condition. Car has factory air condition ,but doesn't work - all components are there but would have to be rebuilt. Car has only been driven on good weather days for the last 20 years , any rust you might see in photos is only surface rust with no rust through or pitting. The dip portions of footwells were damaged from underneath when car was placed on a 4 point hydraulic garage lift years ago, I have replacement panels but have not installed ( was waiting to install when I redid interior) I also have $200-$300 worth of spare parts that go with car.
