1961 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Coupe
Number 55 off the production line
For sale at £140,000

This matching numbers example is even earlier - the 55th to leave the Browns Lane production line - but asks no more of the next owner than to drive and enjoy it, as it was treated to a fastidious nut and bolt rebuild by its previous keeper, and is now in concours condition. A Jaguar aficionado of many years, the E-Type's saviour purchased it unseen on eBay in 2007, knowing it to be a fairly early example in need of major refurbishment. However, it turned out to be in a far worse state than expected, but a much earlier and therefore more desirable chassis. He stripped and painstakingly rebuilt the car himself, employing Jaguar Racing Panels to sort the bodywork, and renowned marque specialist Ken Jenkins to overhaul and blueprint the engine. The E-Type had been painted many colours over the years but, after much deliberation, it was decided to restore it to its original combination of dark opalescent green, complemented by a suede-coloured interior. Upgrades made during the Jaguar's refurbishment include: the fitting of a Borg Warner T5 gearbox; larger Jaguar brake discs; adjustable Koni dampers, poly suspension bushes; and stiffer six inch wire wheels. With just 420 miles travelled since the completion of its restoration, this stunning-looking and decidedly desirable E-Type is the closest thing to driving one straight of the production line at Brown's Lane. Ready to be used now someone else has had the pain staking restoration.
