Sold by E Type UK of Hadlow in February 2021. Abbreviated seller's description below.
www.etypeuk.com/showroom/series-1/jaguar-e-type-series-1-38-rhd-fhc-jb/
Buily in 1962, this was the seventh right hand drive Coupe to be fitted with dished floors after the final flat floor examples. A truly early car featuring its original 3.8 engine, the cast is stamped December 1961, making this one of the last 3.8 engine blocks built that year. Finished in Opalescent Slver Grey over Maroon, only 349 cars were finished in this rare combination. Sold through Henlys London to Mr S Norman in February 1962. Early ownership history of the car does not exist although there is a full history from June 1992. It passed to a new owner in Warminster in 1993, then to an owner in Slough in 1995 who retained for almost 20 years until sold to a Hampshire classic car specialist in 2014.
It was restored with originality as the highest priority. After 18 months and 3,200 man hours that included a rotisserie rebuild, bare metal respray, engine rebuild and re-trim the E Type was returned to factory specification. While originality was the focus, upgrades were fitted to include a 5 speed gearbox with the original Moss box being reconditioned and retained with the car, uprated brakes with 4 piston calipers and vented discs, alluminium radiator with modern fan, competition wire wheels and stainless steel exhaust. It has all the original paperwork, brochures, tool kit, jack and handle, a most complete collection. This high standard restoration means the car retains the original features unique to the early cars.
This E Type offers a stunning opportunity to purchase a brilliantly driveable car that retains the essence of this icon. The bodywork is in brilliant condition, as is the leather interior. The running and performance of the rebuilt 3.8 engine paired with the upgraded 5 speed gearbox makes it highly capable for both long distance motorway and quiet B road drives.
Note: The registration number shown on the heritage certificate, 289HYR is a misprint. The number recorded with the DVLA is 298HYR, as displayed o the car and shown on the tax disc.
