Lot #127523

This 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III 2+2 is a running project that was acquired by the current owner in 1995. It is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 linked with a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. Finished in white over black leather, the car is equipped with four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, 15″ steel wheels, quadruple carburetors, and Cherry Bomb mufflers in addition to a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a Jensen stereo, and air conditioning. This Series III E-Type is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with the owner’s manual and a clean Minnesota title in the owner’s name.

The seller reports that the car was refinished in its current shade of white under prior ownership. There is rust around the body, rust-through in parts of the monocoque, and tears and cracks on various seals.

Steel 15″ wheels wear polished covers and are mounted with 215/70 Dunlop SP40 thin whitewall tires. The Series III E-Type was factory equipped with power steering, and stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors.

The 2+2 cabin features front bucket seats and a reach bench upholstered in black leather, which shows wear. An aftermarket Jensen stereo and air conditioning are equipped. Cracks in the dashboard and wear throughout the interior is visible.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. An inoperative clock along with auxiliary gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level are mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 49k miles, more than half of which were added under current ownership.

The 5.3-liter V12 is equipped with quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was rated at 241 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque when new. The exhaust system is fitted with Cherry Bomb mufflers and replacement quad outlets.

Engine stamping matches the number provided on the data plate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. Rust is present on underside components.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
