This 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III 2+2 V12 was purchased by Bay Area–mechanic and owner of Sun Auto, Bob Cogswell, in the early 1990s. It was then repainted and reupholstered and the engine was rebuilt before the car was put into storage. Upon emerging from storage approximately four years later, the engine was frozen and needed another partial rebuild. More recent service included rebuilding the suspension and brakes and installing a Bell exhaust system and Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. This V12 E-type is now offered on the owner’s behalf as a non-running project car with a collection of spare parts and a clean California title.
The car was repainted in the factory Sable during the early 1990s.
Recent service has included powder coating the factory suspension parts, rebuilding the power brake servo, rebuilding and re-plating the front brake calipers and hydraulic cylinders, installing adjustable SPAX gas shocks, and replacing the brake master cylinder, pads, rotors, and hoses. All five tires are 205/70VR15 Vredestein Sprint Classics produced between 2020 and 2021.
The cabin was reupholstered in Biscuit leather in the early 1990s using a kit from G.W. Bartlett Co.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. An analog clock along with auxiliary gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level are mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 60k miles.
The 5.3-liter V12 was rebuilt in the early 1990s and then partially rebuilt again after the engine froze during storage. The cooling system is disconnected and there are no drive belts.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. The seller notes that the pinion seal, rear cover gasket, output shaft bearings, output shaft seals, and half-shaft U-joints were recently replaced.
The seller notes that the following parts will accompany the car:
A set of Jaguar coolant hoses and Jaguar hose clamps
Drive belts
Restored heater core
A/C condenser
Original A/C compressor and hoses
The car’s number is UD1S74773, UD indicating the 1973 model year. The VIN on the title uses a J instead of a U.
