Sellers description:
1973 XKE Jaguar
Extremely low mileage (only 6,700 miles since new!) Jaguar convertible, 1973 vintage, is available for your collection.

What finish could be more aptly British than British Racing Green (BRG) as a choice for this road-going roadster?

Factory fitted with a sophisticated and smooth 5.3 Liter V-12 engine design that was loosely based on an earlier design considered for the XJ13 LeMans entry. The 12-cylinder was only the second design in the history of Jaguar. An all-alloy block with removable wet liners for the cylinders, and topped with SOHC 2-valve alloy heads to reduce complexity, weight, and noise. Fuel is delivered by four Zenith-Stromberg side draft carburetors, and the mix is fired by a Lucas OPUS electronic ignition, with 7.8:1 compression creating 241 HP and 285 ft/lb of torque.

The engine in this particular OTS (Open Two Seater) is backed by a rare-for-'73 4-speed manual transmission for sporting top-down driving, backed up with the legendary independently-suspended Jaguar rear end. The 3.54:1 rear gearing offered factory specifications of 0-60 in 6.8 seconds, and allowed a top speed of 135 MPH. The wheelbase of 105 inches was easily pointed along the highways and byways by power steering.

This delightful Series III is fitted with chrome 72-spoke Jaguar wire wheels that accent the gleaming BRG finish.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
