This 1974 Jaguar XKE roadster was purchased new by the current owner on December 12, 1974, from British Motor Car Distributors, Ltd. in San Francisco, California, and was later moved to Oregon where it has remained since. The car is finished in Greensand over a black leather interior and is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a black soft top with matching boot cover, 15″ wire wheels, quad Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, four-wheel disc brakes, air conditioning, and an AM/FM stereo. Service in anticipation of the sale consisted of replacing the spark plugs. This Series III roadster is now offered on dealer consignment with an owner’s manual, purchase paperwork, tools, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean Oregon title.

The current owner states that the body was refinished in its factory Greensand by Autowerks NW in Portland, Oregon. Equipment includes V12-badging, US-spec bumper guards, a louvered hood, quad central exhaust outlets, and a black convertible top with a matching boot cover.

Chrome 15″ wire wheels feature winged knock-offs and wear older Firestone RE710 tires. Four-wheel disc brakes were equipped as standard along with independent front and rear suspension. A full-size spare resides in the trunk along with a factory jack and a lead hammer.

The cabin features bucket seats reupholstered in black leather along with matching door panels and carpets. Amenities include air conditioning, an analog clock, a locking glove box, and an AM/FM radio. Wear is noted on the driver-side seatback.

A leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline, and gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 16k miles and is believed to have rolled over once. The total mileage is unknown.

The 5.3-liter V12 features quad side-draft Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was factory-rated at 264 horsepower. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.

The sales invoice lists delivery to British Motor Car Distributors, Ltd. in San Francisco, California, along with optional equipment and a total price of $11,082. An owner’s manual, literature, and tool kit are also included in the sale.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists the factory chassis number and colors as well as an October 16, 1973 date of manufacture.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
