Auction 22530:
The Amelia Island Auction
12 Mar 2015 12:00 EDT
Chassis no. UE1S25820BW
Engine no. 7S10301LA
This lovely Series III E-Type Roadster was purchased by the consignor in 2003 in Southern California; it is believed to have spent most of its life before that time in the Golden State, though ownership details are not recorded. A rare manual-transmission equipped example, this car is somewhat unique among its V12-powered brethren, as many buyers for these cars opted for the popular automatic.
Over $20,000 in accompanying receipts document restorative work as well as regular maintenance and care items performed during the previous owner's tenure. It is believed that the paintwork, upholstery, and top were all redone in the early 2000s prior to acquisition by the vendor. The result is a striking example of this powerful cat, and it has been much admired, receiving best in class awards during Jaguar club events.
Offered with its spare wheel, top boot cover, tools, jack, as well as the aforementioned file of receipts, the Jaguar is described by the vendor as a smooth runner and driver. Brightwork is extremely presentable, while the resplendent red paint still shines and sets it apart from the scores of more-muted color Series III E-Types. It is believed that the ~64,000 miles on its odometer reflect the Jaguar's actual mileage since new. With its manual gearbox, the Series III can exploit its potential as a driver's car in a way an automatic simply cannot compare to. The thrill of manipulating the torquey five-plus liter V12 via throttle and clutch is a sensation unique to these final evolution E-Types, themselves the ultimate evolution of the original E-Type design that dated back to 1961. One of the last of the breed, this E-Type is sure to provide many thrills for its next keeper.

Sellers description:
1974 Jaguar XKE V-12 roadster. It is an excellent vehicle that drives out as well as it shows. A very flashy color combination, along with the smooth power of the V-12 and 4-speed transmission, makes this Jaguar a pleasure to drive. BODY: Bright red exterior paint that is in wonderful condition. The car was purchased out of the southern California area where I believe the car was painted. Estimated that the car was painted about 15 years ago but that is unknown. The chrome and trim is in excellent condition and shows well. Lights, glass, and rear window are all in very nice shape. The body is very solid, there is no rust that I am aware of on the car. Also, no known accidents. With all this being said, this is NOT a 100 point car. The restoration was believed to be 15-20 years ago but is undocumented, therefore I do not know the age of all areas of the car. There is some wear on the car in certain areas. I've tried to show all those areas in the pictures I have. Several additional pictures that I can send to you. INTERIOR: Beautiful tan interior in the car. Seats are very nice and do not sag. Carpets are in good shape and fit well. Gauges all work and the dash is in excellent condition. Very nice convertible top on the car with a solid and clear plastic window. Car has spare tire, tools, jack, hammer for knock offs, and owners manual.
ENGINE/TRANSMISSION: This is a very nice driving car with the desirable 4-speed. Engine pulls strong and runs out well. The clutch feels great and transmission shifts up and down with ease as it should. There is an updated ignition box that was installed by previous owner. Makes the car very reliable. Headers through the exhaust is solid and sounds wonderful. The engine was replaced sometime in the car's history so it is a non-numbers matching car. Reason for the replacement is unknown but it is the correct type motor for the car. I have never had any overheating issues with the car. Overall, it performs very well and is a blast to drive.
SUSPENSION/BRAKES: Car handles as it should and brakes work great. Power steering works and the car drives straight down the road. There is some mild squeaking in the brakes that happens occasionally. Overall this is a great car and excellent to drive to shows or just around town. There are about $20k in receipts that come with the car from miscellaneous maintenance and restoration work completed by previous owner.
